Bhimashankar Shiva Jyotirling –
Bhimashankar is one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and is located in the Sahyadri mountain range near Pune, Maharashtra. This holy shrine is surrounded by dense forests and is also the source of the Bhima River, making it spiritually and naturally significant.
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva appeared here in the form of a Jyotirlinga to defeat the demon Tripurasura and protect the gods. After the victory, Shiva is believed to have taken the form of Bhimashankar, and sweat from his body gave rise to the Bhima River.
The temple showcases ancient Nagara-style architecture with beautifully carved stone pillars and sculptures. The serene environment, misty hills, and rich wildlife of the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary add to the divine experience for devotees and tourists alike.
Bhimashankar is especially crowded during Shravan month, Mahashivratri, and Mondays, when thousands of devotees visit to seek blessings of Lord Shiva for peace, strength, and prosperity.
